FRENCH TOAST GLIZZIES
Ingredients
2 Eggs
¾ cup (180ml) Milk
1 tsp (2g) Nutmeg
1 tsp (5ml) Vanilla Extract
2 tsp (5g) Ground Cinnamon
⅛ tsp (0.5g) Ground Cloves
Breakfast Sausage Links (casings removed)
Sweet Rolls (e.g., Hawaiian Rolls)
Butter, for cooking
Method
Make the Batter – In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, nutmeg, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and cloves until smooth.
Prep the Rolls – Cut the sweet rolls lengthwise, leaving them hinged. Flatten with a rolling pin.
Cook the Sausage – In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage links until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
Assemble the Glizzies – Place each sausage on the browned side of a roll, roll it up, and dip the entire roll into the batter.
Toast the Glizzies – In a pan over medium-low heat, melt butter and cook each roll until golden brown on all sides.
Additional Notes
This was my first time making French toast. I feel like you can go even lighter on the spices—not that what I used was bad, but a little really goes a long way with this recipe.
Patience is key. I burned the first couple trying to rush it. Low and slow is the way to go. Something I’m learning with cooking is that a lot of dishes just take time. Not everything is about getting food on the table as quickly as possible. Taking the time to get a nice brown color, toasting the bread gently without burning the butter—that’s what gives you the best results.
I’m more of a savory breakfast kind of guy, like I think I’ve said before. These are definitely for people who lean sweet. And heads up: these were extremely rich. You’ve got milk, sausage, and bread all packed into one bite—so keep that in mind.
This recipe requires patience… and an appetite for a rich, hearty breakfast.
