HONEY GARLIC SHRIMP

Ingredients

  • 529 g / 1.2 lbs jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • ½ cup / 170 g honey

  • 5 tbsp / 75 ml soy sauce

  • 1 ½ tbsp garlic, minced

  • ¾ tsp ginger, grated

  • To taste red pepper flakes

  • ½ tsp cornstarch

  • 1 ½ tbsp neutral oil

  • As needed scallions, sliced (for serving)

Method

  1. Marinate: Whisk together the honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Toss the shrimp with 5 tablespoons of this mixture and let them marinate for 15 minutes.

  2. Prep Sauce: Stir the cornstarch into the remaining unused marinade and set it aside.

  3. Sear: Pat the shrimp dry and discard the liquid they were marinating in. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the shrimp in a single layer for 2 minutes per side until they are browned.

  4. Glaze: Pour the reserved cornstarch-marinade into the skillet. Cook until the sauce thickens and thoroughly coats the shrimp.

  5. Finish: Top with sliced scallions and serve.
